A-Cat Class Rules rewrite

As you might know, the Class Rule rewrite was taken of the agenda for the 2017 WGM at the Sopot Worlds. The main reasons for that was a new contact we got assigned at World Sailing, found some issues in complying with the World Sailing template, which would cause them to not being able to approve the rule rewrite.

These issues have now been fixed along with incoorporating the World Sailing Interpretation from 10th of August on Thilo Kellers foil system.

Maciej Żarnowski victorious in a closely fought Sopot 3 Piers Regatta.

The POL Sopot Three Piers Regatta took place on the weekend of the 15-16thJune, organised by the 2017 Worlds club of UKS NAVIGO.  This mixed catamaran event saw 34 cats with 3 races a day scheduled.  The Saturday racing was rather ‘interesting’ as there was a light onshore 5-8 kt breeze but with a bigger sea, causing a few problems.  The evening was spent productively in the ‘Sailors for the Sea’ event where litter was collected from the surrounding beach and dune area, followed by a salmon BBQ courtesy of Almaru Salmon.

Lars Schrøder, DEN National Champion

Danish Nationals - Report by Lars Schrøder

Once again the danish fleet meet up for fierce competition in Kerteminde, as part of Sailextreme, the largest dinghy regatta in Denmark. A rather small but dedicated group of sailors, with no obvious favourite.

Weather forecast was bad and proved to be correct… One race over the limit on Saturday, where Thomas P showed his skills. Sunday was better, after a couple of hours waiting. 2 ½ perfect races, upwind foiling starts paying of, but difficult in the patchy conditions. Capsizing doesn't..

Mischa in the zone at Hellecat

Seven bullets for Mischa Heemskerk in nine races!! Kees Krijger reports.

In spite of the weather forecast, beautiful competitions were held in the Netherlands at Hellecat on Saturday and Sunday the 18th & 19th of May. On Saturday 5 races were sailed in super circumstances, with five bullets for Mischa Heemskerk.

Memorial Santi Monjo ESP 'A' Cat regatta in Barcelona.

A memorial regatta is announced to honour the popular ESP sailor Santi Monjo, who sadly passed away last year, but in a manner that we may all probably secretly aspire to, whilst actually sailing his beloved 'A' Cat.   Abdón Ibáñez sends this invitation to honour his memory in Barcelona.

'We would like to inform you about a very Special Event we are preparing in Barcelona: Memorial Santi Monjo, that will be held in Barcelona next July.

Foiling Easter Regatta, Garda.

On the Garda circuit now, and with 21 entries, this event can only get more popular.  Emmanuel Dodé reports on his personal experiences.

I arrived at Garda the weekend before and it was sunny and 18-20 deg for the whole period.  However, the wind was a light southerly, and 6-10 kts with occasional 12kt gusts.  The upside was that this made the water almost flat.

Latest Measurers Guidelines - Rudder Fixings. A note from the Chief IACA Measurer

We have had a number of enquires over the past few weeks as to how we should be addressing the requirements of Rule E2.1 & E.5a & c which relate to the rudder assembly and the distance from back of hull. We are now seeing various designs of adjustable rudder assemblies allowing adjustment of rake whilst sailing. With our open design nature there is no hard and fast design of the rudder assembly so we need to look at what fits within the rules and what doesn’t.  Download the guidelines here.

Good turnout for the US Admiral's Cup with wins for Mahoney and Cope

Sailing out of the Sarasota Sailing Squadron a record fleet of 42 A Cats competed for the coveted Admirals Cup.  Winning the foiling fleet (and overall) was Bruce Mahoney followed closely by Jeremy Wilmot and Bob Hodges in third. In the Classic fleet, Woody Cope dominated with Rush Bird and Ben Hall tied for second (Rush won the tie breaker). Ben Hall reports.

The regatta started with the traditional and infamous Mudslide registration with Nan Hall and the Admiral blending the the mix ( and with the help of 6 year old Luke Paoli).
