Important new proposal for a 'Classic' variant within the World Sailing Regulations

A proposal for a Classic division at our World Championships

Dear sailors,

During the world-wide poll conducted in November 2016, more than half of the answers came from people with floating boats and not being sure if they want to buy a flying boat. The same majority asked for a "floating" category.

We have listened to your opinions and have now submitted a proposal to establish a "classic" discipline, within the World Sailing regulations. I recommend you to read the attached letter to understand the details of our proposal.

Calabria victorious (just) in the 2nd ITA national race series

Giovanni Calabria wins the National A Class regatta organized by the Centro Velico Sunset. Lorenzo Bianchini and Vittorio Bissaro respectively on the second and third place on their debut in the 'A' Class - reports Pier Faccin.

During this weekend at Calambrone, near Livorno, the second stage of the Cat A Italia’s Calendar was held at Centro Vela Sunset. With 31 registered helmsmen, this event has somehow redeemed the quite slow start of the new ITA season seen at the Vele di Pasqua event.

New French Event - Critérium National Classe A, 25th – 28th May

The 'Critérium National Classe A' will be held in Sète, South of France, from the 25th to the 28th of May.

This new regatta on the AFCCA calendar replaces the French Nationals that were traditionally held on this Ascension week-end. Nationals that are for the first time move back to early November to enhance the sports interest throughout the season and conclude it in the best possible manner, crowing a French champion.

RIP Serge Pelissier, FRA 51.

Serge Pelissier, FRA 51, has passed away recently.

You may have met Serge and his wife Alice in France and the nearby countries racing Hobie Cats and his A-Cat.  Serge was a very good person to be around. Our thoughts go to his wife Alice and their family.

Fair winds Serge and keep sailing up there.

Class rule rewrite

At the 2016 WGM in Medemblik, the Technical Committee was given the task to rewrite our current Class Rules, to clean them up and make them fit current World Sailing standard. This is now in place.

The Technical Committee, lead by Thomas Paasch, has done an impressive work during the last months. I would like to express my thanks to them.

2017 Sopot Worlds update.

It is going to be a great event! Poland will host Catamaran World Championships for the first time in their history. However, the organizers are sure that A-Class sailors, a sailing spot with beautiful sandy beaches and the vibrant atmosphere of Sopot, will help to make the event truly successful. 4 weeks after start of registration, there are already 60 competetors registered and we know this is not final number. We have also had verbal commitment from many top sailors, including some America's Cup participants.
