Open Swiss Nationals 2006 , Ascona , Lago Maggiore
Great sailing conditions , Top level 59 boat fleet.
Perfectly hosted by Yacht Club Ascona and the Swiss A-cat Association, the 2006 Swiss nationals was a great event.
9 races in three days , wind from 8 to 18 knots , bright weather and challenging tactical courses on Lago Maggiore .
Paolo Penco (ITA) succesfully defended his title on the XJ , and showed good concistency with 5 ( !) firsts .
Giovanni Calabria ( Flyer Mk2) , came second , Sacha Wallmer ( SUI) best Swiss on position 3. Sascha sailled this year a Marstrom
for a change . 4,5,6 where three Dutch (Dwarshuis , Hoekstra and Lambriex) all on Flyers MK1. Three Italians ( Vaccari on Flyer mk1,Farnesi on
Marstrom and Casadei in XJ came in 7,8,9 . Second Swiss local Club member Sergio Vela on Flyer ended 10th.
All big guys where delighted to have an 'Never-two-hulls-in -the -water-event ' which are in fact the conditions wher the A cat is designed for...is't it.....
