Lamberto Cesare, Giuseppe Colombo and Paolo Penco were the top 3 sailors in the Open category, and Andrea Ruffini, Marco Radman and Alessandro Rosi made up the Classic podium at the Italian Nationals, hosted at Senegallian Beach, just down the coast from Riccione, the venue for the recent Euros.  Some 50 sailors raced is a spectacular range of sailing conditions that tested them all over the last August weekend.

It is reported, by Passion For Sailing, that ‘the first day opened with sustained wind that allowed the holding of two hard-fought and spectacular tests. Right at the end of the second, a violent storm hit the fleet, forcing everyone to make complex returns and immediately making it clear that this championship would not be for the faint of heart.

The second day saw the regatta committee take the fleet back out to sea, with initially promising conditions. But already from late morning the atmospheric instability was felt: two strong storm fronts hit the area, accompanied by gusts of wind and heavy rain. Despite the wait and attempts to position the field, it was not possible to start any test. The day therefore ended with nothing done from a sporting point of view, but with many stories of difficult returns and moments of tension experienced by the competitors, always under the watchful eye of the means of assistance.

The third and last day instead gave decidedly calmer conditions: light and variable wind, which forced the helmsmen to a refined tactical work. Three tests have been completed, decisive to award the tricolor titles.

Beyond the sporting results, the event once again highlighted the timeless appeal of the A-Class catamaran. For Senigallia, it was also an opportunity to reaffirm itself as an ideal venue for major sailing events, thanks to the combination of sea, hospitality, and sporting passion.

Three days of wind, adrenaline, and spectacle crowned the new Italian champions, delivering a top-level event that will remain in the memory of both competitors and spectators alike’.

It was a great result finally for Lamberto as he has got so close 3 times before to gain an A-Cat title, although Hobie 16 and F18 were previously in the bag, this one has always illuded him, and as he is off to the Worlds in New Zealand in November, high-pressure racing will be the order of the day there.  And a good result for Andrea also with his first National title too.  Congratulations to both Champions!
