A letter from Farley Fontenot, Commodore Houston Yacht Club

Houston Yacht Club would like to invite you to have your 2022 World Championship here, in La Porte, Texas, at the North end of Galveston Bay. Our club has held World Championships, Olympic Trials, North Americans, Nationals and numerous other regattas over our 124 years. Our club is blessed with 8.9 acres of land, one of the largest footprints of any yacht club in the US. We have acres of lawn space, as well as acres of parking to accommodate not only the boats, but support vehicles that are needed for an event like this.

But what we are most proud of, is our Staff and Volunteer Members who make an event like this possible. We love regattas like this, and our teams have the background knowledge to make it as painless as possible for the participants. The City of La Porte has a rich history supporting the bay and bay events, and this event would be no different, where the whole city would help in the support.

Next year is our Yacht Club’s 125-year Anniversary, and we can think of no better event to help showcase our 125th as the 2022 A-Class World Championship. I have been in contact with both Bob Webbon and Bruce Mahoney, but if anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. We hope to see you in April, 2022.
